Suede Sundae

This weekend, Andrew and I went shopping for more bundles of suede. Wow, we got some delicious colors and I can't wait to get started.

I'm having a good time with owls. A pretty and wise owl looks great with a few understated Swarovski Crystals.

An original painting with metallic pewters and golds on luxurious rust colored suede that includes my small kanji stamp in the corner; it also comes with a small certificate of authenticity.

The owl is a sweet bird waiting for someone like you. It's one of a kind and for now, you can find it on ETSY.

Swashbuckling Kitty Stocking

As an early Christmas present, I created a little leather and suede stocking for my friend Jim who is fostering my kitty, Pip.

Jim loved the stocking, let's just hope that Pip does too.

Turkey Weekend

After a traditionally huge and fabulous meal at Cafe Madam's with the extended family, Andrew and I retreated to Raleigh on Friday to catch the Carolina Designer Craftsmen Fine Art Show that evening -free entrance and free wine. I didn't get a chance to see some of my favorite artists but talk with a few returning about the marketplace.

Additionally, we worked like elves to assemble product and artwork for Boylan Heights Art Walk this next weekend. I've got much to do and hope that I can hit the treadmill a few times this week while stuffing cards once they arrive from the printer's this week.

Meanwhile, I was excited to learn that my red suede journal was featured on the ETSY homepage this weekend and earned lots of favorable response. Yay! Thanks to those who like my work enough to handpick it for their own.

Andrew and I have exciting studio news: Handmade Luxe Journals

These sumptuous journals covers feature Bacchus and are die-cut, stitched, lined with soft microfiber, and include a coordinating bookmark to hold your thoughts in place.

While we have several color combinations, they are limited -you'll want to reserve yours fast!

The uber-cool covers are 5x7" and come with a blank journal to immediately chronicle your thoughts in prose or in doodles and a bookmark ribbon.

Birthday Projects

Last year, I made an adorable small purse (homage to Bacchus) for my neice Caileigh. It's made of suede and leather. I was delighted that she loved it and I was told that her sister Emmy, secretly coveted it.

Emmy isn't a foo-foo girl and really likes messenger bags -she had been carrying the Harry Potter messenger bag for years that I gave her- and is growing out of it. Andrew and I were experimenting specifically with messenger bags and we decided it would be easy enough to transfer the pattern and design one with Emmy in mind.

We don't get to talk to the neices enough to really understand what kinds of trends they admire and follow and for the past few years, I had been sending Emmy 'Emily the Strange' cards and trinkets -simply because of the name and the cats. Naturally, she loved it.

Meanwhile, we thought that she might be leaning toward goth or grunge (we secretly hoped) and because she loves horses, we came up with this current design. The bag is made of denim, suede and lined with a Stewart Plaid. The horse is a hand-painted applique and the front suede is also hand painted.

There are a few things I would do differently now, but strived to keep the design clean for a student who wouldn't necessarily lean toward grunge.
